It’s So Weird Its Cool

Ever wondered about your family history? Genealogy Research leaving you scratching your head? Simply want to know what is in your gene pool?

Family Tree DNA is the largest of genetic testing services available and well known in the Genealogist community. They provide testing for African Ancestry, Native American Ancestry, Jewish ancestry and even high profile ancestry. They go a step further by providing you with the option of placing the results of your DNA tests in a database just in case another testers DNA matches yours. Which is a huge PLUS because, while Family Tree DNA is the leader in the field of genetic testing, your results will either take you a step further or leave you with an even deeper mystery.

This simply means they can only tell you so much, so do not expect to get your whole family tree solved that easily, especially if yours is one big mess of what-knot’s and who is who’s. But Just in case you do find yourself needing more information than what they can offer, try dnaconsultants.com they can give you percentages and even tribe names!

So far the search for my roots have been a long and suspenseful situation, not only have I found out that we are not a mix of Native American as the whole family believes, but that we are of Asian descent. This information did not come from the test that I took with Family Tree. FYI, testing costs money! But, how I found this out was from a test that another person took. Though I was devastated by my results, because it left me at a stand-still. I know that my family is a mix of something. From the jet black curly hair to the light skin tone and when I was contacted by him, it pretty much was my icing. While my test only told if I had a particular race, in my case I chose Native American, his test told all the percentages of ethnicities that he had on his maternal side.

He’d contacted me because I showed up as a relative, in a database provided by Family Tree. So I would not have known him if I had not been in their database. How far apart in relation, we have no clue. I learned that he had gotten the works in DNA testing done, and Asian was the second largest in his genetic make-up (next to African) on his maternal side.

Though, he was the key in my newest discovery, I have found a lot of “distant relatives” of all nationalities and looks. My family now consists of Cuban’s, people from Paris who only speak French and other’s who blend in to a “T” with my current family. Turns out we are all looking for this mystery woman, and some of us still are, of another ethnicity that we each have in our side of the family.

*If you are very interested in pursuing your family history, don’t stop with the library. Delve deeper and check into DNA testing.*dna
